Yeah, it’s been a while and it may still be a while still until I get back into doing this regularly but … I have been listening to a bunch of my coworkers talk about their kids heading back to school. It’s no big shocker then that this wormed its way out of my head and onto a notepad. So I figured I’d share.
I miss having a lunchbox with a thermos. Those were cool.
I have to admit you all aren’t going to get anything new from me this week as I deal with some real life stuff. So instead I thought I’d introduce you to something awesome one of my friends is doing.
My buddy Jamie Noguchi has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for his first plush toy, Puppy Cow. Now you’ve probably heard me plug Jamie before when he was the artist for Erfworld: Book 1 or when he started his new comic Yellow Peril (he is also one of the guys behind SuperArtFight). The way Kickstarter works is a creator sets a monetary goal to reach in a certain amount of time and consumers, like you, pledge at certain levels with various bonuses provided by the creator. If the goal isn’t reached there is NO Charge. Nada. You only get charged if the drive is successful. I could try to explain more but really if you went to the site it would probably make more sense and give you more detail.
So if you would consider checking out Jamie’s Puppy Cow Plush project I would appreciate it. And as you will see on the site, under backers or updates, I’ve put my money where my mouth is.
Today’s WoD is from my buddy Nick: Darth Maul and Skeletor hi-five. As soon as I got this one I knew I had to draw it.
BTW, Nick has gotten back int the webcomic world recently. His new project is titled Oh Perilous World. If you are into horror/sci-fi/fantasy go on and give it a look.
Today’s WoD submission was for a mechanized version of my old partner dern (specifically MECHADERN!). Robots aren’t really my thing but I’m pretty happy with the line I walked on this one. It’s funny though, that I’m a month-plus out from being the artist at Hello with Cheese and I’m still drawing dern.
As if you couldn’t tell, today’s drawing is a result of the Wheel-of-Death me request I made earlier in the week. My friend Allison sent me a bunch of suggestions. Oddly enough when I put 3 of them together they seemed to make and odd little story/scenario in my head. So there you go, Happy Friday.
I’ve been having a hard time sitting down to draw lately (as evidenced by the lack of posts). Well, earlier today I took a page out of the Super Art Fight playbook and asked the folks on twitter to Wheel-of-Death me. And boy did I get some interesting responses (but that’s for later posts). The drawing above came from my buddy and fellow illustrator Lee Cherolis. He suggested I find someone I’m not familiar with and draw their caricature. I’ve never considered caricatures a strength and it’s been a long time since I tried so I took it as a good idea.
Now at the time I was listening to the latest MacBreak Weekly podcast and I realized that even though I subscribe to his blog, daringfireball.net I had no idea what guest John Gruber looked like. So five seconds later and a tappity-tap on google I had my resource photos. Shortly after that, what you see above.
Yeah, this really happened.
For my birthday 2 weeks ago The Wife got me P90X (I was my heaviest ever when I turned 34). This happened while she was researching the exercise equipment that would be needed to go with it. I just so happened to be sitting on the other couch so I got to see this live. I did it no justice.
