I did a few of these on cardboard sketches last weekend at Katsucon while I was behind the table. I’ll pull out the other 2 at some later point.

Before I disappear into my honey-do list for today I just wanted to do a quick post. I’m sure you can tell what I am going to be doing this weekend. That’s right, keeping the kids out of the paint (and hopefully getting some on the walls).
Here are the last few clean up webcomic links from last weekend: Fragile Gravity (my buds whose comic wraps this year so get on it), Conscrew (whose cosplay didn’t scare me) & Girl Genius (which I haven’t read yet but is supposed to be awesome)
Ok, I think that is everyone… NO… AMUS World, duh. Check it out, it’s knit! (No, that isn’t a typo. EDIT: but it is incorrect, the characters are crocheted.)

Day 3 of Katsucon I got to start the morning off with a panel. On that panel (in a particular order) were the announcers from SAF (Ross & Marty), Mookie of Dominic Deegan (who I never managed to introduce myself to) and three of the guys from the Half Pixel crew: Dave Kellett (Sheldon), Kris Straub (Starslip Crisis*) and Brad Guigar (Evil Inc*) (missing was Scott Kurtz of PvP).
While I have been a fanboy of Brad’s for quite some time I had never familiarized myself with the work of Dave or Kris. My bad. First off all three are nice, funny personable guys but there is a reason they are at the top of our industry. They are just that good. Go check out their work if you haven’t already and if you want to see a video of the panel head on over to Brad’s site. If you can’t find me in the video I’m the guy 3rd from your right jerking his head around like a chicken for most of the panel.
* Both Brad and Kris have multiple projects but I would call these their main ones.

So day 2: now that I am all settled at Katsucon I ended up getting pulled into a Super Art Fight Battle Royal. 4 teams of 2, each working on a line of canvases for 10 minutes and then everyone moves one canvas to the right. My partner (poorly pictured above) was Hawk of AppleGeeks. This was the first time either of us had participated in SAF in this fashion (if you remember I had the clay fight last time) so we were both a little nervous. I have to say it was a lot of fun and we got along great. Everyone seemed to have a blast and there is just something awesome about 8 artist on stage at once vibe-ing off each other.
Marty, one of the announcers, is on me to do it again but we’ll have to see. Maybe if I get to team up with someone again.
Anyway, here’s a list of the other competitors and their sites. All worth checking out. You will find something in there that you will add to your bookmarks.
Announcers: Marty Day (Dead of Summer), Ross Nover (The System)
Team 1: Nick Borkowicz (Art Fight High School), Jami Noguchi (Erfworld)
Team 2: Jaimie Baldwin (Sudden Valley) Yuko Ota (Johnny Wander)
Team 3: Myself (HWC) & Hawk (AppleGeeks)
Team 4: Steve Bennet (Angel of St. Thomas) & Garth Graham (Finders Keepers)

The first thing I want to let you know about Katsucon is how much I lucked out as far as a place to crash. Since The Wife didn’t join me for this trip I was hoping to just grab a bed and split a room to save on some cost. Oni (who by the way did a killer job running the webcomic show there with Harknel) put me in touch with one Chris Malone of the webcomic Blue and Blond. Chris and his girlfriend Jessy are two of the nicest people I have run across at a con and were great for putting me at ease when it all became a bit much for me. A big thank you to both of them for helping make this a great weekend. Please help me pass along that thanks by checking out his comic.
