Back 2 Work

Back at work and tired. Gotta love Mondays. At least this week is a short one.

I’ll try harder tomorrow.

Maybe.

So a Man Walks into a Bar

It always feels weird uploading these from home instead of at the office before work. I’ve taken a step back toward cartoon-y today with a little sketch I did while getting used to my new pens. I’m pretty happy with it.

And yes, like a dummy I drew him on lined notebook paper. Luckily it was easy enough to pull the lines out of the actual drawing

With a Flower in Her Hair

Another day another dame.

I did a search for 50s pin up model today, so sue me. From that search I was directed to a lovely picture of Kim Falcon. It screamed at me to use it for a pose reference today.

(Can’t seem to link the photo directly so here’s a link to her site.)

Truly Inspiring

Yup, another illustration change inspired by Saturday’s little get together. One of the things to come out of that meet up was a list of sites I needed to check out. The one I checked out today is called Today’s Inspiration and it lived up to it’s name.

This week they seem to be focusing on Edwin Georgi. After seeing his work with women I was inspired to give it a shot myself. If you look through the site for about, oh, 30 seconds, I bet you’ll figure out which one I worked from.

Double Oh to the Seven

I’m really happy with this drawing and really not all at the same time.

As a stand alone interpretation of Bond I’m pretty happy with it. (Although it does look a little bit like Rod Sterling as James Bond if I’m honest.) But since I pulled the pose from a Connery as Bond promo shot I wish I could’ve captured him more. After a failed attempt or 3 I decided just to let it happen and forget the likeness.

So, of course, since I drew Bond I have to ask the obligatory question: Which was your favorite?

Old School Inspiration

I got to hang out with some incredible folks this weekend and discovered that I have a lot to learn. A couple local comic professionals along with their highly knowledgeable friends walked me through an amazing collection of old books, newspaper illustrations, original artwork for about 9 hours on Saturday. About 15 minutes after we started I realized the best thing for me to do was shut up and just start letting it soak in.

What you see above is hopefully the first of many steps toward some more realistic approaches to my illustrations. I’m not giving up the cartoony stuff but man was I inspired to kick it up a notch. (Thanks guys.)

Oh, and you can go ahead and consider this an apology for Friday’s disturbing creation as well. Sorry ’bout that (but it probably won’t be the last time).
