Everyone Loves Pie

Sigh… I knew it was going to happen. In all my linkage I forgot someone. A cool someone. A someone whose work I liked and need to spend some time catching up on.

John McNamee of Pie Comics.

I feel better now.

But it is time to stop talking and go work on my own cartoon for heaven’s sake.

Name Droppings

First off big thank you to Harknell & Oni for stepping up to the plate and getting the webcomics section together and going for Balticon this year. It was great seeing them again and they just may be dragging me along to another con down the road. Two people more willing to share their WC knowledge you’ll never meet.

Second up: I take no responsibility for content of the sites I’m linking today. Just saying.

Debbie Ohi - Oh, I wanted more time to get to know Debbie. We sat next to each other on a VERY large panel & and got along immediately. She has tons of stuff going on so I’m not going to try to list it here.

Bree - Crazy, cool chick. Probably a crazy comic as well. With a title like Sex, Drugs and June Cleaver, you’d kinda figure.

Kelly Price - Met Kelly briefly this con. He takes care of some tech stuff for the Comic Genesis site and does an adult themed comic of his own.

J. Andrew World - I’ve known Andy for a while. He’s got a comic coming, I just haven’t seen it yet.

And finally, Rosscott, who I finally got to spend some time chilling with this weekend. Cool dude with some cool work already done and more cool stuff on the way. Did I mention I thought he was cool?

Oh, and if you made it this far and were wondering what the drawing had to do with the post…nothing. I had a pun in mind but all I could see was what The Wife’s reaction would’ve been, so I drew that.

B’more Boogie On My Mi-e-i-e-ind

So, a couple days ago I mentioned Dear Pirate whose creator lives just down the road from me. Today I wanted to focus on some other Baltimore based folks I had the honor of seeing this weekend.

First up, the comic you can blame for influencing the grotesque looking fellow you see above. Marty and Nick are two cool B-more boys that do a rockin’ zombie comic set in Baltimore, Dead of Summer. If you are into that at all (and I know at least one of you is) you need to check it out.

Along for the ride with the DoS boys was the absolutely adorable Jamie Baldwin, creator of the comic Sudden Valley. I will admit that I have not yet made my way through the archives but just from what I have seen, I’m looking forward to making the time. Anyway, those of you that remember my limited palette run on Bassetville will understand why I dig her color style.

Last but certainly not least I got to meet Mark Wheatley of Insight Studios Group. If I try to go into why you should be impressed by that here, this is going to get long. So why don’t I send you to his site’s bio and you can look around. Though I will say make sure you check out Hammer of the Gods. I love it.

Tomorrow I’ll finish up with the name dropping so I can get back to my normal randomness.

Business Type Musings

So, back to business as usual.

Speaking of “business”, the cards went over like gangbusters this weekend at Balticon. I loved watching the recognition on everyone’s faces when they realized that they were all original drawings. For the most part people just pulled from the drawings I already had done but I did fill out a few requests. My only regret there is that I don’t have scans of the on-the-spot illustrations. I should probably start bringing a camera.

Interestingly enough the cards were an excellent access point for my good friend Barb (of Fragile Gravity along with her partner Chris) to start needling me (again) about putting a book together. She thinks I should do one containing my black and white illustrations. I’m considering it. I think I might do a mix of those Broken Muzzle cartoons I did and put the card illustration in the back.

What do you think? Would you be interested?

(Also welcome to everyone James sent over from IHL. If you are interested in checking out the work I had shown him go here to see it. And no, you don’t need to have an iPod. Just download the PDF version of any episode to check it out right on your computer. Though I do prefer how it looks on an ipod.)

In Dot We Trust

I was not planning on doing a post today. I figured it is Memorial Day, I’m allowed to take it off. However, after meeting some excellent cartoonists this weekend I was inspired to make some goof off art today, which you see above.

What you see above are the characters from the comic In His Likeness (by James Hatton) done in Sculpey. Except for the orange and white dot. I just had to do a Frances dot. Had To.

I highly recommend checking out James’ comic. It is funny, irreverent and addicting. I’m actually quite jealous of how entertaining he can make frikkin’ circles.

If the 3d approach intrigues you (and you like pirates) I’m going to also suggest you check out Dear Pirate. I got a chance to hang out with Darren, the creator and all around cool dude, this weekend and I hope to be doing so even more (official time, house-to-house: 12 minutes).

PotW: Jeffery

Today’s Pick of the Week ends our cat run. I believe today we have one of my In-Law’s cats, Jeffery.

I want to thank you all for playing along and leaving captions below. Unfortunately, I am running low on pictures and am unsure that the pic of the week contest will be able to continue. I have a few more left but if you are enjoying this part of the blog (and Frances & Friends) please send in pictures to keep it going.

Last week’s winner:
PotW Charlotte

“DOG! Put that camera away and mind your own business!” -Suzy

The PotW contest can only last so long without your help. So send those pictures of your pets to me here at potw@bryanprindiville.com.

This Should Remind You

This little drawing should remind you of something, hmmmm, maybe from the ’80s. Can you tell me what?
