Night Watch
Have no fear, this little darling did not pop out of my imagination. It it from one of the awesomest movies I’ve seen in a long time, Night Watch.
The Wife and I decided to go bargain binning over the weekend at Blockbuster. I’ve been curious about the Russian supernatural thriller for some time now. Between finding it for $3.99 and its sequel (Day Watch) as part of the 4 for $20 pile it was a complete no brainer.
And completely worth it.
Folks, this movie had some of the coolest subtitle work I have ever seen. If someone was yelling the words were HUGE. A vampire’s call… red… then dissipates like a drop of red dye into too much water. All this on top of a cool story with great visuals, priceless.
It is finding a movie like this that makes all the other dung piles I’ve taken a chance on worth it. And I’ve found some stinkers.

But have you seen Alvin and the Chipmunks yet? I saw it over the weekend. It’s cute, and I love the fact that the chipmunks look like chipmunks, but I’m glad I waited for it to come out on DVD.

I really like this movie, and the one before, Daywatch. What got me to watch them was the fact that we have two of the same brand (URAL/IMZ) motorcycles that were used in the 2nd film. They were provided by the factory in Irbit.
But the film was great on it’s own merits. Good production values and a good story, not some 5th time remake out of Hollywood.
I didn’t get the bargain you did but I still feel it was worth the money.

PS. Those stuntmen on the bikes earned their money. A sidecar shifts the center of gravity severely. It’s more stable at low speeds and on slick surfaces, but to do the type of jumping etc. that they did was extremely impressive.
